We believe all individuals have the right to a confidential, supportive space to express their thoughts and feelings. We are committed to maintaining clients' privacy and safeguarding their personal information. We will not release any information without the client's informed consent, unless required by law through a court subpoena.
In line with the ethical guidelines of the Australian Psychological Society (APS), we uphold the following principles:
All personal information is protected under the Privacy Act of 2002, and client records are securely stored.
Informed consent is a fundamental aspect of ethical psychological practice and must be obtained before treatment begins. This process ensures that clients are fully informed about the nature, purpose, potential risks, and benefits of the treatment. Clients are provided with clear and comprehensive information, allowing them to make an autonomous decision regarding their participation. It is essential that the client has the opportunity to ask questions, discuss concerns, and withdraw consent at any time during treatment. This approach promotes transparency, trust, and respect for the client's rights throughout the therapeutic process.
Information regarding diagnosis and treatment recommendations may be shared with the referring practitioner (e.g., GP, psychiatrist, or pediatrician) when necessary.
Confidentiality is fundamental to the therapeutic relationship. In the case of clients aged under 18 years, information shared by the client will not be disclosed to the parent. We encourage open communication between the client and parent, but ultimately, it is the client’s choice regarding what information they wish to share and their boundaries should be respected. We may provide a general summary of the session (e.g., topics discussed, or strategies used) when appropriate.
The limits of confidentiality will be clearly explained in the intake process to all parties involved in the clients theraputic journey. We will break confidentiality where risk and safety are concerned.
In cases of separated families, we encourage consent and both parents' involvement, unless a court order specifies otherwise. We do not act as a mediator, prepare court reports for those involved in legal proceedings or share detailed session information between parents. We do not provide couple therapy or group therapy. We encourage separated families to seek involvement in external services such as Relationships Australia: https://www.relationships.org.au/
